Touring with Wunderhorse, Glasgow crowds and 90s grunge influences: Fanatic meets Basht.

Owning the title as one of the most promising acts on the rise currently, Dublin lads Basht joined me for a chat a few months back to discuss their debut EP ‘Dirty White Lies’ and their experience joining Wunderhorse on their UK tour. The boys will be returning to Glasgow at King Tut’s for their winter tour on November 12th.

How would you describe your debut EP and your influences/ lyrical approach?

“Musically taking cues from early 00s acts such as Interpol and Bloc Party with a splash of influence from the 90s grunge scene for good measure. Lyrically, the EP aims to paint 4 distinct scenes;  4 chapters of a relationship, the meeting, the departing, the lamenting, and the acceptance. and i feel each song tells its on part of that relationships arc, each with a different perspective and emotional tone.”

Who produced the EP, what kind of an impact did they have for you?

“Thom Lewis (Sam Fender) recorded and produced the EP with us in Newcastle last summer. Thoms’ approach was that he really wanted us to be in charge creatively and allowed us the space to make the final decisions on certain aspects of the EP. It was also our first time working with a producer and quite a surreal experience for it to have been one of Thom’s calibre.”

Tell us about the Wunderhorse tour, how was your experience and how did it come about?

“Another surreal moment for us!  So we had been touring with them on the Irish leg of their tour in March 2023, and had just finished the last gig of that tour which was in Belfast. Everyone was a bit tired but happy to hang out and celebrate a successful headline tour for them, (and our first tour ever!). After the show Jacob asked if we would be up for joining them again on their upcoming October/November tour to which very happily accepted. The October tour was an incredible experience for us in every aspect, from exposure, to the experience of being on tour in a foreign country, to getting to and from venues on time, and how to look after yourself on tour. It was an invaluable string of lessons concetrated into just over a week.”

Suiting perfectly to the alternative rock/ grunge scene brewing and reviving, Basht next join Been Stellar in Paris shortly after their own headline tour of the UK. A slot at Live in the City in Leeds concludes an incredibly busy month for the rising stars.

How does it feel to sell out headline shows across the UK? Tell us how the new tunes went down live and how the crowd reacted.

“We are very very grateful to be in a position where we can bring our music to cities around the UK and to be able to tangibly see our fanbase growing. Meeting the same people time and time again at gigs really reinforces the feeling that we must be doing something right and suppresses that imposter syndrome for a brief moment!”

How has your experience been playing in Glasgow, and when can we expect you back?

“We f*cking love Glasgow, always a good time, always a great crowd!”
