Riotous four-piece Soapbox take to the stage at King Tut’s on Sunday 30th July amidst the release of their brand new single ‘Mad Jungle Beat’ available Friday 28th July.
With initial connotations of Idles and Soft Play, Soapbox comment on the lyrical influence behind ‘Mad Jungle Beat’:
“it’s lyrics I wrote about 5 years ago. It’s about the toxic aggression that exists in people that can be fuelled by alcohol, especially in Scotland where the drinking culture is so harmful. It’s a song that jumps about a lot just as a night on the town can be so unpredictable”.
Building a reputation for their passionate live performances, the band mention the creative process involved when translating their raw energy to the recording sessions:
“We like to keep our recordings as lean as possible, there is no additional production done unless we’re absolutely certain it’s needed. All the instrumentation is real, even our weird effects are achieved through feedback and pedals. It means we can recreate it all live and people get to enjoy the songs as we intend both live and on recordings”.
Having teamed up with the heavily acclaimed producer duo of Johnny Madden and Chris Marshall, Soapbox note that most of their previous songwriting sessions were based on gut feel and crowd reactions. However, the latest addition to their musical repertoire involved structural amendments and a deeper look in to the feel of the song. The end result sees a noticeable change to the song as a whole, “Mad Jungle Beat has changed a lot since we’ve been in with them but it’s a stronger song for having worked with them (Marshall and Madden)“.
Up next for the Glaswegian four-piece is their headline show at King Tut’s on Sunday 30th July as part of the Summer Nights festival, with support from Big Girl’s Blouse, The Skins and The Wee Reprobates. When asked what audiences can expect to see at their inevitably chaotic show, Soapbox said “Moderate Nudity“.
