Loneliness, powerful tones and recording with Blair Crichton: Fanatic meets Pink Limit

After a rowdy headline show at Stereo last month, Glaswegian quintet Pink Limit release ‘How Could It Get Better Than This’.

Lyrically inspired by themes of loneliness and rejection, the alternative rockers note the impact of past experiences and musical influences on their newest tune:

“The song is about a moment of happiness that creates the realisation of loneliness. It’s about a connection that initially felt real but turned out it wasn’t. I was listening to a lot of ‘Fontaines D.C’ and ‘Nirvana’ when I wrote this song. Nirvana especially influenced the dynamics between verses and choruses.”

Notable from their live performances, the energy and passion Pink Limit showcase to audiences is such a fundamental aspect to their personalities. When asked to explain the steps involved when capturing this vibrancy in the studio, they responded:

“All of the guitars were recorded using a Kemper which allowed us to find the most powerful tones possible. The drums were also recorded using minimal spot micing with a lot more room mics to try and give a much bigger sound to allow them to really drive the song. When we did takes we played the song through instead of section by section to try and mimic our live sound as much as possible.”

The recording process of the latest instalment to the Pink Limit discography involved partnering up with producer Blair Crichton of Dead Pony. The band comment on the production impact Crichton had on their session:

“Blair helped us create a plan and gave us advice on the structure of a song. We took out certain sections of the song to make it shorter. It’s great to work with someone who has produced some of our favourite songs coming from Glasgow at the moment.”

Up next for the riotous five-piece is another single to follow suit, with plenty of gigs to be announced and the premise of a London return on the cards after their recent English success.
