We recently caught up with rising star Indoor Foxes ahead of her latest single, ‘Plant Pot Song’ released through Bold Cut.
Forming her first musical offering in over a year, Plant Pot Song sees Indoor Foxes (Martha) return with immense anticipation – receiving features across Spotify’s ‘shockwave’, ‘We Are Glasgow’ and ‘Fresh Finds Rock’ playlists.
Martha perceives Indoor Foxes as an idealistic version of herself, one that flourishes with confidence and provides an ability of self-expression:
“I almost idolise this half-character I have in ‘her’. It feels like wearing your favourite outrageous jacket or a really big pair of stompy boots when I move through the world as ‘Indoor Foxes’. Martha feels softer in some ways.”

Martha comments on her experience in the studio working with Ross Leighton (Fatherson):
“When I brought the song to the studio with Ross we were talking about that feeling of not being able to get someone out of your head and that’s when we pulled the chorus together – I kept thinking about the texting thing and how I wasn’t just wearing my phone battery down, but myself too – I knew I was being delusional, but I didn’t really care. I was just so all-consumed thinking about this – largely because I was SO bored.”
The track marks her first release through Bold Cult – a label with an esteemed reputation for producing Scottish hitmakers. A music video accompanies the single, showcasing Martha’s personality and image in DIY fashion: directed, shot and edited by Nathan Dunphy.
Citing the likes of Wolf Alice, Phoebe Bridgers, Paramore and Scottish heroes Fatherson as pivotal influencers on the Indoor Foxes sound, Martha comments on the blend of noise she had in mind when she approached producer Jamie Holmes:
“When we took it to recording I’d been listening to loads of midwest emo/modern grunge and shoegaze music as well as a lot of indie pop so I really put Jamie through it. I tried to pull the dirty guitar tones together with pop songwriting and some of the classic midwest emo vibes. I wanted this song to feel like it was teetering between the dark obsessive thinking, and the bright adoring motivator that leads you there.“
‘Plant Pot Song’ bridges together a relatable edge between love and obsession, anchored by energy and infectious melodies. Honest lyricism is a theme that can be expected to appear within future releases, where Martha comments on the importance of establishing her live energy within the track:
“I loved developing the drums with Jamie – when we made the demo they were all in a slower halftime, but I wanted to bring more energy so we had to totally rework them and bring them back to full time in that really Oasis-y way (think Supersonic). I also LOVED putting all the vocals together and really getting on top of all the notes.”
With a team of Take The Weight Off Management and Bold Cut Records working alongside Martha, 2024 is inevitably set to be a breakout year for rising star Indoor Foxes. Expect to see the singer/ songwriter connect with new audiences further afield in quick fashion.
